Seated Medicine Ball Twist w/ Spikes & Throws Abs Exercise

AskTheTrainer.com Seated medicine ball twist is a fun and challenging exercise for the abs, core, and obliques. If you have posture problems due to the muscle imbalance of tight hip flexors this is not a good exercise for you to do. You can learn about muscle imbalances here: AskTheTrainer.com Sit on either the floor or an airex pad. An airex pad will make the exercise more difficult because it will increase the need for balance as well as increase the distance you must twist to touch the medicine ball to the floor. KEEP YOUR FEET IN THE AIR for the duration of this movement. Turn your body and touch the medicine ball to either side of you as many times as you want, usually 5 or so. Throw the ball back to the partner, rebounder or wall. You can also slam the ball back to your partner between your legs. The partner can increase the difficulty of this exercise by changing where they throw the ball. You must stabilize your core, contracting your rectus and transverse abdominis while you catch the ball. These can be used for abs, or as a warm up exercise.
